Lynch’s Riverview Wine and Spirits

An impressive selection of eclectic wines lines the shelves of Lynch's Riverview Wine and Spirits (Lynch's) in Uxbridge. Just beyond the bottles is a striking view of the waterfall flowing from the river into Capron Pond. Photos on the walls of this rustic, wood-beamed structure add a sense of the history of this downtown location. Owners Chuck and Jay Lynch know that history well, as members of the Lynch family that has operated a business here since 1928. They are the father/son team who run this unique package store, offering a full selection of wines, domestic and imported beers, microbrews, liquors and fine cigars.
While Lynch's offers a range of products, it is clear that the focus here is on the wine. Chuck and Jay attend wine tastings in Boston and work with wine representatives to select the finest options for their patrons. "It's a constantly evolving industry. We taste a lot of wine and research and select very carefully. That's our focus," says Jay.
They offer customer wine tastings throughout the year, featuring 10 to 12 selections complemented with cheese and crackers. Both father and son are on hand to share their knowledge of wine and food pairings. They also keep a close eye on competitive pricing. "We like to keep our customers happy, not just through service, but through price and selection as well," Jay adds.
Both Chuck and Jay just about grew up in their waterfront business location. Originally built in the 1770's as a warehouse for nearby woolen mills, the building later housed a rifle company and then a handkerchief factory. Chuck's father, Charles Lynch, a pharmacist, established a retail business there in 1928, later incorporating a package store and pharmacy. As chronicled in the pictures on the walls, Chuck spent countless hours in his father's shop, playing near the soda counter. Following in his father's footsteps, Chuck later worked there as a pharmacist.
Jay spent many of his younger days there too, and began working in the family business while in high school. Over time, the pharmacy and retail areas were phased out and the wine selection expanded. After all these years, the package store remains.
Lynch's Riverview Wine and Spirits, located at 16 Mendon St., Uxbridge is open Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday noon to 6 p.m. For more information or to receive notification of tasting events, call 508-278-5100 or email jaylynch@hotmail.com.
