Red Rock Grill and Bar

Sherry & Russ Berger welcome guests to the Red Rock

After owning four Boston based restaurants, all with their own individual flair, Upton residents Russ and Sherry Berger decided to open a restaurant in the suburbs. Choosing their hometown, they opened Red Rock Grill and Bar in February, bringing spirited, innovative comfort food and a friendly meeting place to 66 West Main St., (Rte. 140), Upton.
Red Rock Grill and Bar specializes in a made-from-scratch mix of comfort food and creative cuisine. "We take your ordinary dishes and sandwiches and put a creative spin on it. We want to appeal to everyone," stated Sherry. Some of their signature dishes include lobster mac 'n cheese, chicken potpie, spring rolls and eggplant polenta.
Red Rock also features daily specials for lunch and dinner, homemade desserts, full bar with two flat screen televisions, craft beer and specialty cocktails. "We use fresh, seasonal ingredients that are purchased from as many local businesses and purveyors as possible," said Sherry.
The Berger's want Red Rock Grill and Bar to be a friendly, fun gathering and eating spot for friends and members of the community to meet, have a good meal at a reasonable price and have some fun. Red Rock has already hosted several successful beer and wine tasting dinners, most recently Magic Hat Brewery. It now has an outside patio area, and volleyball court, with Sunday afternoon 4-on-4 volleyball leagues for the recreational player.
Familiar with the stress of having busy lives and commuting, the Berger's are expanding Red Rock Grill and Bar with "Good to Go", offering ready- made meals and ice cream. Kayak rentals will also be available to enjoy the scenic lake nestled alongside the restaurant.
With over two decades of restaurant experience, Russ began his career as a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, N.Y. and is a third generation of family restaurant business owners. The couple met while working at Joe's American Bar and Grill on Newbury St. where Russ was the Chef, and Sherry, the Front of House Manager.
Red Rock staff is predominately from Upton with several high school students on staff, including their youngest son. The Berger's are committed to Upton and being involved in the community. On August 6 they are sponsoring the Red Rock Warrior Challenge, a Triathlon to benefit Nipmuc's Warrior Club.
The Berger's enjoy living in Upton and owning a business here. "It's great to have a business where customers come in and know each other; it makes for a happy environment, unlike the city restaurants that are more transient ... the reception [here] has been fantastic," said Sherry.
