Mendon Launches New Town Web Site

It's been more than a year since Mendon's Planning Board announced its plans to oversee a new Web site for the town. And now, Board members can finally check that time-consuming project off its list.
The town's new site was officially launched in mid-June and according to Planning Board Chair Bill Ambrosino, he and the Board are thrilled the Web site is finally complete."It's been a process," he said.
Throughout its development, the Planning Board made several presentations to the Board of Selectmen showing them the necessity to update the town's Web site. Initially, Planning Board members did not think the Web site would take as long to construct and launch but during the summer months last year, progress was slow.
Ambrosino said residents will now find the new Web site more user-friendly and that many items, such as forms, can now be printed from the site. "Now residents don't have to make a trip to the Town Hall," he said.
Through the interactive Web site, residents may also sign up to receive email alerts concerning the latest goings on in town. Events are also listed on the Home page including Board and Committee meeting dates, times, and agendas. There is also a section for residents to pay their taxes online as well as other residential services listed.
Every town department is now responsible for maintaining the content of its own pages, which Ambrosino said employees will find easy to utilize. He stressed to town employees the importance of keeping their pages current with the latest information.
Although the Web site has been officially launched, Ambrosino said more additions are sure to come, including the possibility of GIS mapping services.
In order to make certain everything is running efficiently with the most up to date information, a Web Committee has been formed with resident and Master Plan Committee member Todd Garrison chairing. The Web Committee is looking for more members. Anyone interested should contact the Planning Board at 508-473-2679 or email email@example.com.
The Planning Board secured the initial funding for the Web site through a developer. The yearly cost to maintain it will run approximately $3,000.
"I'm really pretty pleased with it. I think it will help communication between the town and residents," said Ambrosino, who strongly encourages residents and businesses to log on to the site to check it out. "People can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for any feedback." Mendon's new web site can be found at www. mendonma.gov. The town's old Web site address at www.mendonma.net will also redirect users to the new site.
