Taylor Named New Town Accountant

Zachary Taylor

Assistant Town Accountant Zachary Taylor will be tMilford's new town accountant once John Pyne retires next month. Taylor filled in for Pyne for several months earlier this year while he was on extended sick leave.

Selectmen unanimously voted on August 8 to appoint Taylor, based on a recommendation from Town Administrator Louis Celozzi. Promoting Taylor and then hiring a new assistant town accountant by early fall, will enable the town to have a strong financial team in place when it comes time in January to begin preparing the Fiscal Year 2013 budget, Celozzi wrote to selectmen.

Regarding Taylor, Celozzi wrote that "He has moved quickly and effortlessly into the role [of town accountant] and provided the Town of Milford with a smooth transition while combining the duties of both the Assistant Town Accountant and the Town Accountant. This successful and impressive transition was not unexpected as the qualities of resourcefulness and hard work were clearly evident at his interview over a year ago."

After following Celozzi's recommendation to appoint Taylor, the board voted to set Taylor's salary at $63,832, according to the salary schedule approved each year at the Annual Town Meeting. The board voted the same salary for John Erickson, who will take over as building Commissioner when Anthony DeLuca retires next month.

In other matters, Selectmen set a fall Special Town Meeting for October 24, with the warrant to close on September 15. They also approved a one-day wine and malt beverages license for a fundraiser to benefit Paul Seaver from 6 p.m. to midnight on October 22. The board also granted a one day license to serve malt beverages from a tent in the parking lot of Scioli's Pizza Bar for a benefit for "My One Wish" being held from noon to midnight on September 4, with the permit subject to Police Chief Thomas O'Loughlin's review and recommendations.
