All Valley Tech LPN Grads Pass State Boards

Valley Tech is proud to announce that the first graduates of the school's post-secondary Practical Nursing (PN) Program, a total of 19 individuals, have all successfully passed the National Council Licensing Examination for Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN). All graduates passed the exam in their first attempt.

These 19 students, now Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), are eligible to begin entry-level Licensed Practical Nursing careers in long term care, office settings, ambulatory care settings, acute care settings, rehabilitation centers and to continue their nursing education. "This was an extremely motivated and dedicated group of students. The practical nursing faculty is proud to have participated in their professional growth and academic success," stated Practical Nursing Program Coordinator, Kathy Ashe, MSN, RN, CNE. "It was through their own hard work that they've achieved this tremendous accomplishment."

Valley Tech opened the LPN program in 2009 following Initial Status Approval from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing in July 2009 and full approval from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The Practical Nursing Program has been awarded Candidate status for Initial Program Accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. The second class will graduate from the program in June of 2012.

Blackstone Valley Tech's Practical Nursing Program, a part-time evening nursing program, is now enrolling qualified candidates for the next session scheduled to begin in August 2012. A nursing program informational session is scheduled for September 9. TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) exam dates are scheduled for October 1 and October 27.

Enrollees in the program generally meet from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. three times per week incorporating a weekend clinical one weekend per month. The program curriculum is designed to assist graduates in passing the difficult National Council Licensing Examination for Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN). Valley Tech's 60-week program includes 1,090 hours of instruction including 945 hours of nursing courses and more than 540 hours of clinical practice instruction.

Students may be eligible to apply for financial aid through the Title IV Federal Financial Assistance Program. The funds are obtained via the Pell Grant Program and the Federal Family Education Loans Program. Interested candidates should refer to Valley Tech's website for information at www.valleytech.k12.ma.us or call the LPN Program Office at 508-529-7758, Ext. 3122.
