Mendon’s Nomination Papers Available February 14

Towns throughout the state are gearing up for their annual elections. This year, Mendon will hold its Town Election on May 15. In total, 12 positions are up for re-election. Nomination papers will be available beginning on February 14.

Offices to be filled include Moderator for one year; the incumbent is Jay Byer. Selectman for three years; the incumbent is Michael Goddard. Town Clerk for three years; the incumbent is Margaret Bonderenko. Board of Health for three years; the incumbent is John Quirk. Assessor for three years; the incumbent is Thomas D. Hackenson. Assessor for three years; the incumbent is Joseph Flaherty; Water Commissioner for three years; the incumbent is Robert Gilchrist; two positions for Taft Public Library Trustee are up for election; one for three years and the other for two years; the incumbents are Robert Carlson and William McHenry, respectively. Mendon-Upton Regional School District Committee member for three years; the incumbent is Donald Morin. Planning Board for five years; the incumbent is Damon Tinio. And Housing Authority for five years; the incumbent is Peter Denton.

Nomination papers may be picked up in the Town Clerk's office beginning February 14. Signed papers must be turned in to the Town Clerk by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27. Candidates need 25 signatures from registered Mendon voters. Every voter signing nomination papers must sign in person as registered, or substantially as registered, and shall state the address where he or she is currently living, including the street and number (no PO boxes). Voters may sign more than one nomination paper for the same office. The last day for a candidate to withdraw from the election is April 12. Political signs may be displayed starting April 17 but must be taken down by May 22.

The last day to register to vote in the Annual Town Election and Annual Town Meeting is Friday, April 13. The Town Clerk's office will be open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on that day.

Residents may also register at any Town Clerk's office in Massachusetts, at the Registry of Motor Vehicles, at certain state agencies or by using a Mail-In registration form, which is available at the Mendon Post Office, the Taft Public Library, and at any town or city hall in Massachusetts.
