More Incumbents Taking Out Nomination Papers in Mendon

As of February 27, a number of incumbents had taken out nomination papers seeking re-election. Mendon's Town Election is scheduled for May 15.

So far Jay Byer, who is again seeking a one-year term as Moderator and Robert Carlson, who is seeking re-election as the Taft Public Library for three years have already returned their completed nomination papers to the Town Clerk.

Several other incumbents have taken out nomination papers and include current Selectman Michael Goddard who is again running for Board of Selectmen for a three year term. Parks Commissioner Joe Flaherty and Town Clerk Margaret Bonderenko have also taken out nomination papers; both are three year terms. William McHenry has taken out his nomination papers for a two year term for Taft Library Trustee and it appears Peter Denton will also seek re-election for a five year term on the Housing Authority.

Mendon Upton Regional School Committee member Don Morin has confirmed he will not be seeking re-election for another three-year term and as of February 27 no Mendon resident has pulled nomination papers for the open seat.

Several other offices are up for re-election for which no nomination papers have been pulled as of February 27 and include Board of Health for three years, John Quirk is the incumbent; Assessor for three years, Thomas Hackenson is the incumbent; Water Commissioner for three years, Robert Gilchrist is the incumbent; and Planning Board for five years, Damon Tinio is the incumbent.

Completed nomination papers must be returned to the Town Clerk by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27. Candidates need 25 signatures from registered Mendon voters. Individuals signing nomination papers must sign in person as registered, or substantially as registered, and shall state the address where he or she is currently living, including the street and number (no PO boxes). Voters may sign more than one nomination paper for the same office. The last day for a candidate to withdraw from the election is April 12. Political signs may be displayed starting April 17 but should be taken down by May 22.

The last day to register to vote in the Annual Town Election and Annual Town Meeting is Friday, April 13. The Town Clerk's office will be open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on that day.
