Dinner and Dancing Highlight Upton Men’s Club Annual Auction

Let the bidding begin. The Upton Men's Club is once again sponsoring its annual charity auction to raise funding for the community. The auction will take place March 24 at the Doubletree Hotel in Westborough and will begin at 5:30 p.m. This year's event, which also includes a cocktail hour with appetizers, a delicious dinner and dancing, promises to have a great selection of items up for auction that will have attendees lining up to place their bids.

Partnering with the Men's Club for this year's event is the Upton Police Association, the Upton Fire and EMS Association, the Friends of the Upton Library, and the Upton Youth Baseball organization. Tickets are $75 per person and will include a full dinner with a choice of chicken, fish, or beef. A D.J. and photo booth will be part of the fun as well. Auction Chair and Upton Men's Club member Frank Aniello likened organizing the event each year to planning a wedding. "We all volunteer our time to make this (auction) happen," he said of the Upton Men's Club and other partnering organizations. This is the 14th year the auction has taken place.

Some of the donated items up for bid this year are autographed sports memorabilia, a day of sailing around Narragansett Bay, a birthday party for ten at the Fire Station, a beautiful, hand crafted eight foot picnic table, one cup of coffee for a year from the Little Coffee Bean, and so much more. There will be both a live and silent auction held during the evening. As the date of the auction gets closer, a list of all items up for bid will be on the Upton Men's Club Web site at www.uptonmensclub.org. "Donations are still coming in," said Aniello.

Seating is limited to 300 this year so attendees should be certain to purchase tickets in advance, as they will not be available at the door. The deadline to purchase tickets or to donate items is March 16.

Proceeds from the auction are divided up among all the partnering groups. "This is our biggest fundraiser of the year," said Aniello of his organization. "All funds raised go back into the community."

Throughout the years, the Upton Men's Club has sponsored a number of events including an annual fireworks display for July 4th, Easter egg hunts, father/daughter dances, and monthly dinners at the Senior Center. In addition, they also support scholarship programs for local students.
