DeBartolomeis Re-Elected in Milford

APRIL 3, 2012

Veteran Selectman Dino DeBartolomeis won his eleventh term on the Board of Selectman in yesterday's Annual Town Election, beating back a strong challenge from political newcomer Michael Denice. Newcomers Scott Harrison and Donald Quattrochio were elected to the School Committee, Michael Walsh was re-elected to the School Committee and Lisa Bacchiocchi and Richard Person were re-elected to the Board of Library Trustees. Voters also approved a ballot question to indemnify public officials.

A total of 2,954 people voted – representing 17.5 percent of the town's registered voters. DeBartolomeis garnered 1,682 votes (58 percent) to Michael Denice's 1,211 (42 percent) in the first challenge DeBartolomeis faced since first elected a selectman 30 years ago. The incumbent led in all eight precincts, but his margin of victory ranged from only between 25 and 89 votes.

In the School Committee race, Walsh was the top vote-getter, with 1,710 votes, followed by Harrison's 1,482 and Quattrochio's 1,435. Write-in candidate Manuel Carneiro received 742 votes. In the Library Trustee race, Bacchiocchi received 1,805 votes; Person, 1,126; and, Tiago DaSilva, 1,015. The ballot question passed by a 9684-508 vote.
