DeBartolomeis Wins Re-election

Dino DeBartolomeis was re-elected as Selectman in the Annual Town Election.

Veteran Selectman Dino DeBartolomeis was re-elected to an eleventh term in the April 2 Annual Town Election, beating back a strong challenge from political newcomer Michael Denice by earning 1,682 votes (58 percent) to Denice's 1,211 (42 percent). In DeBartolomeis' first contested race since first being elected a selectman 30 years ago, he led in all eight precincts, but his margin of victory ranged from only between 25 and 89 votes per precinct.

"I want to thank my family, friends and supporters for letting me serve the people of Milford again," DeBartolomeis said after hearing the election results. Denice could not be reached, but posted a message on his Facebook page thanking his supporters and stating that "Our voices were heard loud and clear and I think this was one of the closest selectman elections in many, many years."

With three contested races, a ballot question and the election of all 240 Town Meeting Members facing voters, election turnout was 2,954 – representing 17.5 percent of the town's 16, 860 registered voters. Last year, only 12.5 percent voted.

In the School Committee race, Michael Walsh was re-elected with 1,710 votes and newcomers Scott Harrison and Donald Quattrochio were elected with 1,482 and 1,435 votes, respectively. Write-in School Committee candidate Manuel Carneiro received 742 votes. In the Board of Library Trustees race, incumbents Lisa Bacchiocchi (1,805 votes) and Richard Person (1,126 votes) were re-elected over challenger Tiago Da Silva (1,015 votes). The ballot question on whether to indemnify public officials passed by a 464-vote margin, with 968 in favor and 504 opposed.
