Milford Gets $500,000 Grant for Church St. Area

By Kevin Rudden Staff Reporter/Columnist · June 28, 2012
The town will be receiving $500,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds to revitalize the Church St. area. Community Development Director Susan Clark said she received preliminary word on June 12 about the award, and is waiting to receive a final budget from the state to know exactly what work can be done.
The town had sought $800,000, with $500,000 to be used for new roadway drainage, curbing, sidewalks and road paving on Church St., Bancroft Avenue and Draper Park – the road, not downtown's Draper Memorial Park. An additional $75,000 would be used for housing rehabilitation, and the $225,000 balance for administration and program delivery.
Clark said she knows the housing rehabilitation funds were not included in the grant award, and she will need to see final budget numbers to determine how much road work beyond Church St. can be funded. Her department is self-funded through the grants it receives.
