Catherine Casey and Elizabeth Howell stand by their boat the EHCC Titanic. The two were 'the first to finish afloat' and winners of Upton's 2012 Recyclable Boat Race with their boat made entirely out of recycled materials. The event was held August 2 at Kiwanis Beach.
A wide variety of recyclable materials were used with creativity, skill and some success as over a dozen Upton residents set sail for fun and awards at the town's 2012 Recyclable Boat Race on August 2. The boats, reflecting the imagination of their skippers, took off on a perfect summer night from Kiwanis Beach. Uptonians of all ages steered the boats while another group of townspeople enjoyed the spectacle from the shore. The contest was sponsored by the Upton Recreation Commission and was coordinated by Recreation Director Mary Cortese.
