Moment of Silence for Paul Seaver

The passing of Milford resident and former Milford High athletic coach Paul Seaver was noted with a moment of silence at the February 7 School Committee meeting.

Board Vice-Chairman Robert Lanzetta noted that Seaver "was a tremendous coach and ... more importantly, was a great mentor to many of our students, not only in Milford. Paul contributed time at the Youth Center and spent time coaching at the youth level and in other area schools. He battled a long and courageous battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) and he will be sadly missed."

Seaver, known to many as "Wally", died on February 5 with the burial held on February 8 at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Seaver, who began his coaching career in the position of MHS Junior Varsity basketball coach, served in that capacity from 1983 to 1988. Following that, he was the Franklin High School Varsity basketball coach, from 1988 to 1999. He also served as coach for the Metrowest Travel Team (Milford) and Junior Varsity basketball coach at Wellesley High School.

In addition to his role as President of the Milford Amateur Basketball Association (2001-2008), he also served as Chairman of the Milford Youth Center Commission. In 2012, the gymnasium of the Milford Youth Center was named in his honor.

Seaver, a life-long Milford resident, received a number of awards, including the Emilio Diotalevi Memorial Award (2012), according to his obituary, published by the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home. In addition, he was twice named "coach of the year" (1993-1994, 1996,1997) and was coach to the Hockomock League Boys Basketball Champions (1997-1998).

Seaver, a Milford High School graduate (1977) was employed at EMC Corporation, in Hopkinton from 1999 to the time of his illness (2011). Memorial donations are being accepted through the Paul F. Seaver Fund, c/o Milford Federal Savings & Loan Association, 246 Main St., Milford, MA 01757.
