Upton Town Election to Coincide with Senate Primary

The Upton Board of Selectmen unanimously approved to change the date of the Annual Town Election to April 30; this day will coincide with the State Senate Primary. The original date of the Town Election was May 6.

According to Town Clerk Kelly McElreath, having both the Town Election and the State Primary on the same day will not only save the community money, but also save residents from having to vote in two separate elections in less than one week.

In total there are 14 offices up for re-election in Upton. The current office holder and the length of office include: Moderator for one year, David Loeper; Selectman for three years, Ken Picard; Town Clerk for three years, Kelly McElreath; Assessor of Taxes for three years, Glen Fowler; Mendon Upton Regional School District Committee for three years, Heather Applegate; Cemetery Commission for three years, Robert Richard; Board of Health for three years, Sherry Berger; Recreation Commission for three years, Paul Pirozzi; three Trustees of Public Library for three years, Kathleen Kelley, Judith Catz, and Linda White; Planning Board for five years, Gary Bohan; Housing Authority for five years, vacant; Finance Committee for three years, Jonathan Graves; Board of Commissioners of Trust Funds for three years, Harvey Trask; five Constables for three years, Karen Varney, James Bates Sr., Barbara Burke, Alfred Holman, and James Comfort.

Nomination papers for interested candidates are now available and may be picked up in the Town Clerk's office. Completed papers must be returned to the Town Clerk by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 12. Nomination papers must contain 33 registered voters' signatures and their addresses. Residents may sign more than one nomination paper. The last day for candidates to withdraw from the election is Thursday, March 28 by 5 p.m.

The last day for residents to register to vote in the Town Election or the State Primary is Wednesday, April 10. The Town Clerks' office will have extended hours that day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

For any questions on voter status, contact the Town Clerk's office at 508-529-3565 or mail kmcelreath@uptonma.gov. Town Clerk office hours are Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8. The office is closed on Friday.
