Auger Wins and Milford Election Results

Incumbent Barbara Auger easily won re-election as Town Treasurer and newcomer Ronald Auger and incumbent John Byrnes were elected to the Board of Library Trustees in the only contested races on the April 30 Town Election ballot. A total of 2,741 people – 16 percent of those registered – cast votes in that election.

In the Special State Primary held on the same day, Milford Democrats chose Stephen Lynch and Republicans chose Gabriel Gomez as their choice to replace John Kerry as the state's U.S. Senator. Only 11 percent of voters – 1,959 – cast votes in the Democratic primary and 5 percent – 814 – in the Republican primary.

In the Town Treasurer's race, Barbara Auger received 2,013 votes to newcomer Michael Soares'560 – a 73 percent to 26 percent difference. "I'm humbled," Auger said after winning her first challenge in 16 years. "I think it shows a strong show of support and it is nice to have that support." She thanked Soares for running a positive campaign. Soares returned the compliment: "First I want to congratulate Barbara on her win. She was a very strong candidate and I appreciate that we could both run positive campaigns. I'm very proud and pleased with the results. My run was about giving the voters a choice and I did that and managed to get over 500 votes without any signs or spending any money. I'd also like to thank Precinct 6 voters for electing me a Town Meeting Member."

In the Library Trustees' race, Ronald Auger was the top vote-getter with 1,444 votes, Byrnes second with 1,378 and Scott Vecchiolla trailing with 990. Also elected were:
