Incumbents Begin Taking Out Nomination Papers in Upton

As of February 13, three Upton incumbents have taken out their nomination papers for the May 5 Town Election. Nomination papers for interested candidates became available on February 10.

According to Town Clerk Kelly McElreath, incumbent Richard Kennedy took out his nomination papers for the five year seat on the Housing Authority. In addition, incumbents Richard Desjardins took out papers for the Board of Health's three year seat and Teresa Ambrosino has also taken out her papers for Board of Assessors three year seat.

A number of other positions are also up for re-election. Their term length and current office holder include: Selectman for three years, James Brochu; Moderator for one year, David Loeper; Mendon Upton Regional School District Committee for three years, Philip DeZutter; Cemetery Commission for three years, Richard Randall; Recreation Commission for three years, Richard Gazoorian; three Trustees for the Public Library for three years, Charlotte Carr, Fran Gustman, and C. John Minnucci; Planning Board for five years, Paul Carey; Finance Committee for three years, Karen Glowacki; and Board of Commissioners of Trust Funds for three years, Americo Binaco.

All candidates must obtain 32 signatures and addresses from registered Upton voters. Residents may sign more than one nomination paper. Completed papers must be submitted to the Registrar of Voters for certification of names by Monday, March 17, by 5 p.m. After certification, papers must be filed with the Town Clerk no later than Monday, March 31, by 5 p.m. Candidates wishing to withdraw from the election must do so by Wednesday, April 2 through the Town Clerk.

The last day for residents to register to vote in the Town Election or the May 8 Annual Town Meeting is April 16. The Town Clerk's office will open that day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Anyone with questions concerning their voter status should contact the Town Clerk's office by calling 508-529-3565 or emailing KMcElreath@uptonma.gov. The Town Clerk's office hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The office is closed on Fridays. The temporary Town Hall is now located at 3 Milford St.

The polls for the May 5 Annual Town Election will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents will cast their vote in the gymnasium at Nipmuc High School. The May 8 Annual Town Meeting will take place in Nipmuc High School's auditorium and begin at 7 p.m.
