No Contests in the Upton Annual Town Election

All candidates on the Upton Town Ballot are running unopposed this year and three seats on the ballot are without candidates. Town Clerk Kelly McElreath also noted that only incumbents have pulled their nomination papers in the hopes of being re-elected once again to office.

The town's Annual Election is scheduled to take place on Monday, May 5 at Nipmuc Regional High School. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The three seats without candidates, all three-year terms, are Cemetery Commission, the incumbent is Richard Randall; Finance Committee, the incumbent is Karen Glowacki; and the Board of Commissioners of Trust Funds, the incumbent is Americo Binaco.

Those incumbents who have taken out and returned their nomination papers include James Brochu for the three year seat for Board of Selectmen; Philip DeZutter for the three year seat for School Committee; David Loeper for the one year seat for Moderator; Richard Gazoorian for the three year seat for Recreation Commission; Charlotte Carr for the three year seat for Library Trustee; Paul Carey for the five year seat for Planning Board; Teresa Ambrosino for the Assessor of Taxes three year seat; Richard Desjardins for the Board of Health's three year seat; Frances Gustman and C. John Minnucci for Library Trustees three year seats; and Richard Kenney for the Housing Authority's five year seat.

All candidates were required to obtain 32 signatures and addresses from registered Upton voters and turn in their nomination papers by Monday, March 17. McElreath said that the nomination papers have been certified and so the May 5 ballot is set. Anyone running for the three seats on the ballot without a candidate will have to run a write-in campaign.

Any candidate wishing to withdraw from the election must do so by Wednesday, April 2 through the Town Clerk.

The last day for residents to register to vote in the Town Election or the May 8 Annual Town Meeting is April 16. The Town Clerk's office will open that day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Residents with questions concerning their voter status should contact the Town Clerk's office by calling 508-529-3565 or emailing KMcElreath@uptonma.gov. The Town Clerk's office hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The office is closed on Fridays. The temporary Town Hall is now located at 3 Milford St.
