Picard Planning to Run Again for Upton Selectman

Upton residents interested in running for office will be able to pick up their nomination papers in the Town Clerk's office beginning on Monday, February 8. Upton's Town Election is scheduled for Monday, May 2.

A number of offices are up for re-election, including the three year Selectmen's position. Incumbent Ken Picard confirmed that he does plan to run again for the Selectman's seat. (In the January 15 edition of the Town Crier, the Town Clerk's office inadvertently provided the wrong information concerning the 2016 Town Election, initially stating the incumbent for the Selectman's seat was James Brochu.)

Other offices up for re-election and their incumbents include: Assessor of Taxes for one year is vacant; Assessors of Taxes for three years , James Earle; Mendon Upton Regional School District Committee for three years, Dorothy Scally; Cemetery Commission for three years, Glenn Fowler; Board of Health for three years, Richard Robinson; Recreation Commission for three years, Paul Pirozzi; three Library Trustees for three years, Linda White, Kathleen Kelley, and Judith Katz-Goodman; Planning Board for five years, Raymond Smith; Upton Housing Authority for five years, Mildred Morin; five Constables for three years, James Bates Jr., Barbara Burke, James Comfort Jr., Steven Driver, and Sandra Hakala; and Board of Commissioners of Trust Funds for three

All candidates are required to obtain 30 signatures from registered Upton voters. Completed nomination papers must be submitted to the Registrars of Voters for certification of names on or before Monday, March 14 by 5 p.m. Nomination papers must then be filed with the Town Clerk's office by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 28. Candidates wishing to withdraw from the election must do so by Wednesday, March 30 through the Town Clerk.

The last day for residents to register to vote in the Town Election is Tuesday, April 12. The Town Clerk's office will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day. Anyone with questions on their voter registration should contact the Town Clerk's office at 508-529-3565. Regular office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Just days after election, Upton will hold its Annual Town Meeting, which is scheduled for Thursday, May 5, at Nipmuc Regional High School beginning at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
