Mendon Water Board Seeking Candidates

After 12 years of serving on the Water Board, incumbent Dwight Watson has decided not to seek re-election. As a result, candidates are being sought for the three year seat. Mendon's Annual Town Election is scheduled for May 17 and nomination papers are currently available in the Town Clerk's office.

The Water Board/Commissioners usually meet less often than once a month, but meet as needed for various discussions, actions and projects concerning the town's public water system supplied by the Hopedale Water Department that serves approximately 150 customers—both commercial and residential. The Water Board also supervises and pays for health-related tests on public wells owned by the town. The Board typically addresses such issues as requests for service, complaints about water quality, and billing. According to Chair Allan Kent, candidates with a background in engineering, finance, or construction may be helpful but is not essential. An interest in maintaining the water system and reducing expenses is preferred.
