The Milford High School Theater Workshop will be bringing the popular musical Pippin to the stage next weekend on March 18-20.

Pippin is a Tony Award-winning musical written by Roger O. Hirson with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. The musical tells the story of Prince Pippin, who longs to find passion and adventure, his own "corner of the sky." In his quest to find a purpose in life, Pippin is led on various adventures by the charismatic Leading Player and her troupe of traveling actors.

During this play-within-a-play, Pippin struggles to decide whether he should settle down and pursue a peaceful life full of simple joys or continue to make magic with the dazzling troupe of performers who offer him fame and glory, and a chance to be extraordinary. But making a choice can also mean making the ultimate sacrifice.

This "colorful" production includes a large ensemble of actors on the stage, one of the reasons they picked this musical according to Milford High School English Teacher and Theater Director Margaret Girouard.

"It's great to have a show that a ton of kids can be involved in," said Girouard. "Everyone has their moment to shine."

Girouard said that Pippin is different from the shows that they have put on in the past few years, as it brings together both drama and comedy in one production. "It is a nice mix of styles," she said. Although the production is sure to be a hit with all age levels, Girouard did caution those with young children that there is some mild language and battle scenes.

Overall, Girouard said that the audience can expect to see "really beautiful music, a lot of color, and great big dance numbers," and a theme that will hit close to home.

"It's a story everyone can relate to... that the answers are not always what you expect them to be"

Along with Girouard, the production is receiving assistance from Choreographer Kristina Lando and Orchestra Director Jill Boday, both of whom are teachers at Milford High School. The Costume Designer for the production is Milford High School senior Kendra Currie.

The Milford High School Theater Workshop will be presenting Pippin on Friday March 18 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 19 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 20 at 2 p.m. in the David I. Davoren Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 for adults and $5 for students.
