Calling All Campers to the Milford Youth Center Summer Camp Program!

Registrations are still being accepted for the Milford Youth Center's Summer Camp Program. The Summer Camps begin on July 11 and run through August 26, and include games, crafts, swimming and field trips throughout the summer. Pictured are campers during a field trip last summer. All is quiet right now at the newly renovated Milford Youth Center, but the silence in the hallways won't last for long as the staff is gearing up for this year's Summer Camp program scheduled to begin on July 11.

After being off site last year during the renovations of the Armory Building, the Summer Camp will once again be held at the Milford Youth Center (MYC) on Pearl Street.

"We are so happy to bring the kids back here [to the Center] for the summer program," said MYC Director Jennifer Ward. "We have some really fun things planned."

The seven, week-long summer camps will feature games, crafts and a jumpy house, as well as trips to the Fino Pool, a Friday movie, a weekly trip to the Hopkinton State Park for swimming, and one out of town field trip per week to fun venues such as Skyzone, Water Wizz, a Paw Sox game, and even ice skating.

Now that the MYC has moved back into its original location, Ward said that there is plenty of space to accommodate up to 60 campers per week with the help of their 14 counselors.

"The kids can walk right in every morning and be met by our great staff and know they will have a fun day," she said.

The cost of the camps is $140 per week, or $50 per day, and includes the cost of all of the field trips. The hours of the camp are 8 a.m. through 4 p.m. but there is an option to extend the day to 5p.m. for an additional $10 per day.

Although the Summer Camp Program is self-funded, Ward said they try hard to make sure it is "affordable" for families. Scholarships may also be available if requested based on need and available funding.

As the Milford Youth Center is also one of the three sites where free lunches are provided by the Milford Area Humanitarian Coalition in collaboration with the Hockomock YMCA, daily lunches and a snacks will be provided to the campers at no charge.

Once the last camper leaves the building on August 26, the staff at the MYC will go back to work in getting the building ready for the After School Program which will begin on the first day of school for the Milford Public Schools.

The After School Program is open to students aged 8-18, free of charge, from 2-6p.m. Monday through Friday during the school year.

Over 400 students were registered for the After School Program at the end of the school year, with an average of 100 students spending time at the center every day.

"We are really lucky to have this space," said Ward.

If you would like to register for the Summer Camps (for ages 8-14), or for more information about the After School Program, you can contact the Youth Center at 508-473-1756 or via email milfordyouthcenter@comcast.net.
