Jennifer Mannion has been hired as the new Miscoe Hill Principal effective July 1.
The Mendon Upton Regional School District has hired a new Principal for the Miscoe Hill School. Jennifer Mannion will be taking over as head of the middle school effective July 1, replacing Ann Meyer, who will be retiring at the end of the school year.
Mannion comes to the Mendon Upton district with over 25 years of experience in the education field. Throughout her career, she worked as a 6th grade English Language Arts teacher in Northborough, an Assistant Principal in the Nashoba Regional School District, and the Principal of the North Street Elementary School in Grafton.
For the past two years, Mannion has worked as the Curriculum Coordinator for the Grafton Public Schools and as Assistant Principal at North Street Elementary.
"We had 52 applicants for the position," said Superintendent Dr. Joseph Maruszczak during an April 10 School Committee Meeting, where Mannion was introduced to the Committee Members. "We are strongly convinced that we have, by far, the top candidate."
Maruszczak spoke to Mannion's qualifications as an educator and a leader.
"Jen is someone that has extraordinary management and instructional leadership skills," he said. "And most importantly, she has the people skills to craft high-quality relationships with all stakeholders – students, staff, parents and the community."
In a follow-up interview with Mannion on April 12, she spoke of her career path that has led her back to middle school. "I have worked with every age group from pre-school to adults, and I loved them all but I found my authentic self at the middle school level," she said.
Mannion said that she is looking forward to transitioning into her new role come summer.
"I am excited to get started in building relationships with the teachers, students, and leaders of the district," she said.
In a letter to parents announcing the new hire, Maruszczak stated that Mannion will be hosting "Meet and Greets" and coffee hours to meet the community.
