Police Memorial Remembers Fallen Officers

Police Memorial Remembers Fallen Officers

Patrolman Robert Tusino, president of the local police union, spoke at the annual Milford Police Memorial Sunday service on May 14, noting that 48 police officers across the country already have been killed in the line of duty this year. "Remember 48, because 49 might be one of us," Tusino commented, pointing to the dangers of the job. The annual event commemorates the deaths of Milford's Patrolman Harry Butler in 1916 and Sergeant Walter Conley in 1980, as well as honoring all officers who served within the Milford Police Department. Other speakers included Police Chief Thomas O'Loughlin, Deputy Police Chief James Heron, Selectmen Chairman William Kingkade, State Senator Ryan Fattman, R. Webster, and State Representative Brian Murray, D. Milford. "We don't want our officers ever feeling like you're not supported," Kingkade said. "Even the most innocent of a traffic stop could result in a shooting and an immediate death," Murray said. "Every single day, you're willing to put your life on the line so that we may be safe," Fattman said. Kevin Rudden photo
