Upton Recreation Commission Bringing On the Fun this Summer

Upton's Recreation Commission has planned a summer chock full of fun this summer that's sure to provide something for everyone, including free music concerts, a recyclable boat race, and lots of kids programs.

The popular free concerts at Kiwanis Beach are already underway and most recently included The Shana Stack Band. However, there's still a number of concerts to enjoy and include jazz and R&B musician Leon Spradley on July 12. Classic Groove will be playing a repertoire ranging from Top 40 and Latin to Jazz and Country on July 19, and the bad boys of country music, the Houston Bernard Band, will play on July 26. All concerts are held at Pavilion and begin at 6 p.m.

A number of kids programs are also happening including Kids @ Play which runs through August 11. The youth summer program includes days full of swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, other sports, arts and crafts, and games. Theme weeks and day trips are also part of the fun. All children taking part must be entering grades K through 8 in the fall of 2017. Kids @ Play runs Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Children can participate on a weekly or daily basis.

Swim lessons are also available at Kiwanis Beach through the entire month of July and Outdoor Adventures with Fin Feather will run the weeks of August 14 and August 21. On July 21, the Commission's Youth Summer Theater program will put on a performance of the Pied Piper at 11 a.m. at Nipmuc Regional High School. And the always fun Recyclable Boat Race is scheduled to take place on August 2 at Kiwanis Beach.

According to Recreation Director Andrew St. George, the Commission is already planning for the fall and will be sponsoring yoga and Zumba classes with additional programs to be added eventually. For more detailed information about the summer programs and registrations, view www.uptonma.myrec.com or contact Andrew St. George at 774-216-1438 or email Recreation@uptonma.gov. The Recreation Commission also has a Facebook page.
