Milford Water Company Eases Restrictions

Effective August 1, the Milford Water Company eased its Stage III water restrictions to a Stage II – Drought Watch level. This means that outside water use is allowed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on an odd/even basis: If your house or business has an even street number, watering is allowed on even numbered days of the month. If your house or business has an odd street number, water is allowed only on the odd numbered days of the month.

Manager David Condrey said this year's rainfall has brought water levels at the Echo Lake reservoir to what the company terms a "plus number" – over its rock wall spillway, but still below the wooden "flash" boards used to increase the lake's holding capacity. "You have to go back to 2008-2009 to have numbers like these," he said.

The company is cautious about reducing restrictions further because its Godfrey Brook well field is off-line while engineers study how to best redevelop it, Condrey added.

Under Stage II restrictions, washing of vehicles, power washing of homes and filling of pools are also allowed under the Stage II restrictions. Automatic irrigation systems may be used on an odd/even basis between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. More information is available at MilfordWater.com.
