A Mendon Upton Regional School District teacher was critically injured after a crash in Rhode Island on October 22, leaving the school community looking for ways to support one of their own.

Nipmuc Regional High School Technology Teacher Andrea Bosworth was struck by an alleged impaired driver while standing in the breakdown lane of Interstate 95 in Providence. Reports by Bosworth's family on social media stated that she was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after being thrown over 90 feet from the impact.

A teacher at Nipmuc since 2016, Bosworth is described by her family as "dedicated, determined, strong, and selfless."

"She is a loving Mama, devoted high-school teacher, and wonderful friend," read a statement on a GoFundMe page created by Bosworth's family. "She is the strongest person I know. She had just finished her third Ironman Triathlon only days earlier...A true Ironman athlete."

When news of the accident was first released, Nipmuc school officials notified the students and parents of the incident, and communicated the resources available for students who needed assistance with processing the information. "Our teachers and counseling staff are aware of this concern and are ready to provide support to any students in need," said a statement by Principal John Clements.

In a follow-up interview, Clements said that the thoughts and prayers of the entire Nipmuc community are with Bosworth.

"The outpouring of support we've seen in the past few days is a testament to how important she is to those in her life," he said. "I keep reminding myself that [Bosworth] is an iron man competitor and that she embodies the strength and perseverance that you'd expect from someone who embraces the challenge of these competitions. I know this will serve her well as she makes her recovery."

A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with Bosworth's medical and living expenses. The campaign has raised more than $76,000 as of Tuesday, October 31.
