Arcudi Apologizes for Housing Inspection Remarks

Elected Board of Assessor member Joseph Arcudi is publicly apologizing for remarks he admitted making during a Neighborhood Task Force inspection of a Main St. property in mid- February. He admitted saying the building's owner should be shot and that the building should be burned down, but could not recall whether or not he called the tenants "pigs."

"I just lost my cool at what I saw. When I saw the conditions they were living in, I never saw that before in my life in Milford," Arcudi stated. Regarding his comments, he said, "I apologize for that and to the Board of Assessors and the Board of Selectmen." Continuing, he said, "I shouldn't have said it and I apologize for that."

Arcudi said he has no plans to resign his seat on the Board of Assessors. His term runs out in 2019.

The issue came to light after Police Sergeant James Heron – who was participating in the inspection – wrote a memo to Police Chief Thomas O'Loughlin detailing what was said during the inspection, but not naming who said it. O'Loughlin, in turn, gave the memo to the Board of Selectmen. Selectmen then said they wanted to know who made the remarks to find out if it was someone who works under their purview.

Arcudi could not be reached for comment after the inspection because he was out of state since then, and returned only this month.
