Fifth Annual Benefit Earth Bash

Visitors can enjoy a rare glimpse of zoo life after hours at the fifth annual Benefit Earth bash, to be held from 7 to 11 p.m. June 18 at Southwick's Zoo.

The bash, located on the grounds of New England's largest zoo, will feature great food and a cash bar. Silent and live auctions will feature an array of gifts and services. In keeping with the evening's environmental awareness theme, eco-friendly products will be used.

The bash benefits Earth Limited, a grass-roots, non-profit educational organization based at the zoo. The organization provides environmental and conservation education with an emphasis on animal ecology, endangered species and threatened habitats. Earth Limited staff members also travel throughout the area, accompanied by live animals in the ZooMobile, to teach people about the importance of animal ecology and wildlife conservation.

"The zoo is so different at night,'' said Betsey Brewer, founder and executive director of Earth Limited. "We want people to see all the changes that our zoo has experienced in the last few years. The bash will give people the opportunity to enjoy great food and drink, relax and experience the zoo in a way most visitors never get to see.''

The bash helps to support many ecological efforts, both locally and internationally. This important work includes whale shark research, The Sarapiqui Conservation Learning Center in Costa Rica, efforts to benefit sloths and great green macaws, interns at the Earth Discovery Center at the zoo and eco-travel.

Plans are underway for a new learning center and after-school program.

This year's Benefit Earth Bash key sponsor is Sysco Boston, which will also supply green products and some food for the event. Other sponsors include Diane Darrah Nurdberg and Mike Seaver of ERA Key Realty in Franklin, Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation and Milford Federal Bank. Food is also provided by Whole Foods in Bellingham and Fresco's Restaurant in Upton,

Special guests include Matt Light of the New England Patriots.

This year's ticket prices have been reduced to $35 per person, or two tickets for $50. To purchase tickets, visit
