Members of the Milford Girl Scouts Service Unit Team were honored with the President's Award on April 7, at the Annual Meeting of the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts. The Service Unit Team is an 11-person committee of volunteers who coordinate the Milford Girl Scouts events and provide support to adult leaders and girls in their troop activities.

The President's Award is a National Award of Girl Scouts of the United States of America and is awarded to a Service Unit Team which surpasses its goals and results in significant, measurable impact toward reaching the council's overall goals. The Milford Service Unit was the only Service Unit in the Central and Western Massachusetts council to receive the President's Award this year.

Service Unit manager, Amy Croteau, said, "This award is a fabulous recognition of the work we do in Milford to provide a strong Girl Scouts program for every member." Volunteers are dedicated to providing opportunities for girls to develop into women of courage, confidence, and character, who work to create a better local and global community for all".

Achievements that contributed to the Milford Team earning the award were

a demonstrated commitment to activities that promote leadership, community service, and camaraderie through town events, as well as increasing adult

and girl membership. During the past scouting year, the Service Unit Team organized an all-levels weekend Encampment at Camp Sayre in Milton; a Fall Hike at Blue Hills Reservation; the annual Square Dance; training and operation of a Cookie Cupboard that supports neighboring Service Units; participation

in the Veterans Day Parade; a Singalong for all troops; a World Thinking Day festival, which bought over 100 Girl Scouts together to celebrate cultures within the international Girl Scouts Movement; and a celebration of Girl Scout Sunday. Upcoming events include participating in Celebrate Milford activities and Memorial Day parade; flagging of veteran's graves at town cemeteries; hosting the annual Bridging and Awards ceremony; and a trip to Six Flags for Girl Scouts Family and Friends Day.

Families may join Girl Scouts at any age throughout the year. Milford Girl Scouts is
