The 2019 Milford Scouting for Food drive began last weekend when Milford scouts hung door reminders throughout town asking residents to leave bags or boxes of much needed food items and other donations by their front doors or mailboxes for families and individuals who utilize the Daily Bread Food Pantry.

This Saturday, November 9, scouts will be traveling

to those same neighborhoods to pick up the donations left outside by residents. All donations should be left in a visible place before 9 a.m. Some suggested nonperishable foods items are peanut butter, cereal, pancake or muffin mix, crackers or cookies, instant soups, rice or beans, pasta, powdered juice or milk, dried fruits, snack bars, adult or infant diapers or single serve nonfrozen dinners.

Frozen foods, items in glass or open containers and those with expired dates cannot be used.

The donations will be brought to the Daily Bread Food Pantry to be sorted and stocked by Milford boy scouts, girl scouts, and parent volunteers. Since 1991, the Daily Bread Food Pantry has been serving individuals from Milford, Hopedale, and Upton and according to its Web site, has helped more than 9,300 people over that time. The Scouting for Food event is the biggest food drive of the year. For those who wish to contribute to the Food Pantry but are unable to take part in this year's Scouting for Food event, donations may be dropped off at the Daily Bread Food Pantry, 21 Exchange St. on Monday evenings between 5 to 7 p.m.
