Milford Goes to the Polls on Monday, April 5

Milford residents will go to the polls on Monday, April 5 for the Annual Town Election and Town Clerk Amy Hennessy Neves is hopeful there will be a good turnout. "It is the Monday after Easter but I hope voters will come to the polls," said Neves. "There are a number of races on the ballot and voters seem interested in the contests."

Topping the ballot is a two-way race for a three-year term as Selectman. Three-term incumbent Brian Murray is seeking re-election, while Mark Wassarman is seeking his first elected office in Milford. A four-way race is being contested for two, three-year terms as Milford Town Library Trustees. The candidates are incumbent John Byrnes and challengers Cheryl Butler, Rory D'Alessandro and Shannon Vinton-Delmore. Another contest on the ballot features six candidates vying for the five open Constable positions. Those running for the three-year Constable terms include incumbents Joseph F. Arcudi, Emilio Diotalevi and Raymond G. Pagucci, Jr. along with challengers Barbara Clement, B. Gregory Johnson and Joseph Palladini.

All other candidates on the April 5 ballot are running unopposed. They are: incumbent Barbara Auger for a three-year term as Treasurer, incumbent Gerald F. Hennessy for a three-year term on the Board of Health, incumbent Joseph F. Arcudi for a three-year term as Assessor, incumbent Arthur Morin, Jr. for a three-year term as Park Commissioner, incumbent Marble Mainini, III for a five-year term on the Planning Board, incumbent Richard Cenedella for a three-year term as Sewer Commissioner, and Michael Diorio for a five-year term on the Housing Authority. Also incumbent Paul Mazzuchelli and Patrick Holland are running for the two, three-year terms on the School Committee and incumbent Marilyn Lovell and Scott Vecchiolla are running for the two, three-year terms as Vernon Grove Cemetery Trustees.

Voters on April 5 will also be electing one third of the Town Meeting members who represent their precinct. Five of the seven precincts in Milford do not have contests for their town meeting members. Voters in two precincts will have to choose among a field of candidates for their Town Meeting Members. Precincts 2 and 5 each have 11 seats at Town Meeting on the ballot. Voters in Precinct 2 have 14 candidates to choose from at the polls, while voters in Precinct 5 have 12.

Running for the 11 town meeting seats in Precinct 2 are nine incumbents: Jose M. Costa, Robert J. Johnson, Maryellen Yaroshefski, Barbara A. Mitides, Orla M. Berry, William M. Sanborn III, Pamela A. Fields, Scott R. Brickley and John P. DaSilva; and five challengers: Lawrence F. Bonetti Jr., John W. Dagnese, Alan L. Bovarnick, Joseph P. Zachilli and Edward L. Bertorelli.

Running for the 11 town meeting seats in Precinct 5 are 11 incumbents: Francis A. Nealon, Harry L. Pond Jr., Cheryl A. Shea, Donato F. Niro Jr., Joanne Dillon, Ronald M. Creasia, Anthony F. DeLuca Jr., John F. Tehan, John D. Edmondson, Irwin B. Macklow and Louis P. Parente; and one challenger, Adam W. Kiel.

"We expect everything to go smoothly during the election, though we always keep our fingers crossed," said Neves. On Monday, April 5 the polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents in Precincts 1 and 3 vote at the Milford Senior Center, Precinct 2 at the Italian Veterans Hall and Precincts 4 through 7 at the Portuguese Club.

Absentee voting is now going on at the Town Clerk's Office in Town Hall. Residents with questions about their voting status or about the election may contact the Town Clerk's Office in Town Hall at 508-634-2307.
