Douglas, MA. April 17, 2011 – Dog Orphans Inc. will hold its 13th Annual Walk for Paws on Sunday, May 1, 2011 beginning at 12:00 Noon at Waters Farm, 4 Uxbridge Road, in Sutton, MA. This anxiously anticipated spring event serves as a key fundraiser for the non-profit, no-kill shelter which relies on donations for its day-to-day operations. This event is being sponsored by Uxbridge Animal Hospital, PawSteps Veterinary Center, Greyhound Rescue of New England, TLC'S Pet Haven, Sturbridge Veterinary Hospital, The P.A.W.S. Bed and Biscuit, 146 Supply Center, Sutton Animal Hospital, Hardcore Fitness, and Boston Road Animal Clinic.

Dog Lovers and their owners are encouraged to start soliciting supporters early for the walk, which takes place at Waters Farm, overlooking beautiful Lake Manchaug. The Grand Prizes for the top three fundraisers this year are as follows: First Place is a $500 American Express Gift Card; Second Place is an iPod, donated by 146 Supply Center in Millbury, MA; and Third Place is a $100 Pet Smart Gift Certificate donated by Sutton Animal Hospital. In addition to these prizes, there are several incentives for our walkers including a complimentary lunch for those who raise $100 or more; a free Dog Walk t-shirt for those raising $125 or more; and a free pet portrait by Christine Keene of "A-Keene Image" for those with pledges of $175 or more.

Waters Farm is a beautiful venue for the many family oriented activities scheduled for the day. These include musical entertainment by the Blackstone Valley Bluegrass Band and great fun for the kids including face painting, a junior dog show and ice cream sundaes. Vendors will provide complimentary services during the walk including dog nail clippings, dog nail painting, micro chipping, agility demonstrations, canine massages and chair massages for the two-legged participants. Additional organizations that will be present will offer information on training, boarding, pet-sitting/walking, grooming, pet supplies and goodies, artistry and portraits, rescue organizations and local veterinary hospitals. Hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage sandwiches and beverages will be sold by members of the First Holiday Night Committee in Uxbridge.

The mission of Dog Orphans Inc. is to take in abused, abandoned and unwanted dogs. After entering the program, all dogs are spayed or neutered, given the proper vaccines/tests, and groomed. Dog Orphans, Inc. relies solely on donations to operate our shelter. Walk For Paws is one of our fund-raising efforts held to benefit the shelter and educate the community about our organization. Please join us on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Waters Farm in Sutton, MA. For more information please contact Dog Orphans at 476-1855 or visit our website at www.dogorphans.com.
