Lawney Tinio Running for Mendon Selectman

Incumbent Lawney Tinio is running an uncontested race for Mendon's Board of Selectman. When asked why he's seeking the seat for a third term, he said he feels an obligation to see Mendon through the difficult financial times it's currently going through.

Tinio feels that his last six years on the Board will serve as an advantage to any of the challenges he and the other Board members will face. "I have quite a bit of knowledge as a result of my time on the Board," he said.

As a result of Mendon financial struggles, the Board is again asking residents to pass an override vote in May. After serving two terms as Selectman, Tinio could have easily chosen not to seek re-election, however that was not an option to him. "It's not about jumping ship (when things get difficult)," he said. "For me, it's about putting the town back on its rails."

Prior to serving on the Board of Selectman, Tinio worked on Finance Committee where he received an education into the financial workings of the town. Currently, he serves on the Land Use Committee. He lived in Milford and Hopedale for short periods of time but basically he says he's lived most of his life in Mendon and is a 1994 graduate of Nipmuc Regional High School.

In addition to seeing the town through its financial struggles, Tinio is excited to continue working with Chair of the Community Preservation Committee Anne Mazar in an effort to make Mendon a green community. He's particularly eager at the prospect of bringing wind turbines to the community in an effort to defray electrical costs to the town. Currently, Mendon is at the beginning of a year-long wind study to verify that the turbines will work effectively.

For his full-time work, Tinio is involved in several businesses. He helps out with the family-owned Tinio Corporation, a trucking company in Bellingham. His company, Tinio Consulting, Inc., an IT outsourcing business, merged with MSB Consulting and he then purchased WorldBand in Milford. He and his family also own Fifty's Lounge in Bellingham.

Tinio, who is father to daughter Dezerae, lives with his girlfriend Kelly.

Mendon's Annual Town Election is scheduled to take place on May 17. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Miscoe Hill School.
