Walk Off Victory Lifts Milford Over Northbridge In District 4 Classic

After a miraculous comeback victory for Milford Legion on Wednesday night against Shrewsbury, the Milford 9 returned to action on Friday night, June 23rd. The team would face off against their historical rival Post 343. Milford extended their seven game winning streak after winning in dramatic fashion 4-3.

The bats got going early with a run scored in the bottom of the 1st. Aidan Wilde flew out to deep centerfield which scored Shawn Rebello making it a 1-0 game.

Northbridge was able to strike for 3 runs in the top of the 3rd inning off of starting pitcher Michael Farrell. Once again Milford would face some adversity and would have to mount a comeback.

In the bottom of the third Milford was unable to score any runs with one of their best chances of the night. With bases loaded and two outs Jake Leblanc hit a hard ground ball right at the shortstop, ending the inning.

Milford loaded the bases once again in the bottom of the 4th but only scored one run on an Aidan Wilde RBI base hit. The game would be 3-2 going into the 5th.

In two innings of relief Nate Irwin looked sharp once again, setting down all six of the Northbridge batters he faced in order. Irwin's efforts helped keep the team within striking distance heading into the bottom of the 7th.

"Nate has been big all year, he was throwing strikes and keeping us within reach. He did a great job giving us an opportunity to win tonight." Coach Steve Divitto said post game regarding Irwin's big performance.

Alex Reynolds got the rally started in the bottom of the 7th with a base hit. Pinch hitter Tyler Almeida walked, followed by a Zach Sisitsky infield single loading the bases. All eyes were on Milford first basemen Jake Leblanc. Leblanc laced a base hit into right field which scored two runs and gave Milford the walk off victory.

"The game is never over until they tell you, you can't play anymore." Coach DiVitto added "Our kids battled and stuck with it for all seven innings."

The game had a playoff feel to it and it lived up to all the hype. Milford has had its share of struggles Vs. Northbridge but were able to complete a phenomenal come back, walk off victory.

The Blue and Gold are back in action on Saturday at 3pm when they visit Wachusett.
