Alex Macek Leads Post 59 In 5-0 Victory Over Northboro

Pitching has been a vital part of Milford Legion's success this season and it continued Saturday afternoon as Post 59 secured a 5-0 win over Northboro behind a dominant Alex Macek performance.

Macek was dazzling in his complete game shutout. The big right hander had four strikeouts and only surrendered two hits. The win is the 16th on the season for Milford. At 16-4, Post 59 entered play on Sunday just two games behind first-place Shrewsbury.

"I was just trying to get ahead of the count and work the outside part of the plate." Macek said postgame. "I wanted to keep the hitters off balance with curveballs, especially early in counts."

The Milford High School graduate has a 1.43 ERA on the season and is one of the premiere pitchers in District 4. He was able to keep Northboro batters off balance, showcasing a hard fastball and a deadly breaking ball. He is expected to be a factor in the team's tournament campaign.

The game was postponed when the two teams originally met on June 30. Macek inherited a bases loaded with two outs situation in the top of the 1st inning. He was able to record the final out on a fly out to Shawn Rebello.

After trading three scoreless innings, the Milford bats finally came alive with two runs in the bottom of the 4th, highlighted by an RBI base hit by third basemen Jake Leblanc. Post 59 put the game out of reach with three more runs in the bottom of the 6th to extend the lead to 5-0.

With only a handful of games remaining in the rigorous Legion season, Macek said every game holds great importance.

"With all of these double headers, we have to remain focused for every game," he said. "If we can win out and gain momentum, we will be a tough team to stop in the tournament."

The second game of the double header was cancelled due to inclement weather. The makeup date is to be determined.

Milford is back in action in a double header on Sunday with games at four and seven o'clock at Fino Field.
