Nipmuc Girls’ LAX Locks Up Playoff Spot

The Nipmuc girls' lacrosse team has used a powerful offense to begin the week with a 10-4 record, already securing a spot in the district tournament. The Warriors have posted a 6-3 record in the Dual Valley Conference, and they have been winning with some eye-popping goal totals.
Nipmuc knocked off Blackstone Valley Tech 20-3 last week, bouncing back from an 11-6 loss to Grafton. The Warriors have scored in double figures in all but three games this season, and the 12.2 goals per game the team is averaging is the top mark in the DVC.
Olivia Calnan scored five goals in the recent win over BVT, while Jade Dougherty added four goals of her own. Jordan Utter and Mackenzie Morgan recorded hat tricks in the lopsided victory. The quartet has provided a consistent offensive attack for the Warriors, and other players like Isabelle Frieswick and Kiara Griffiths have helped supplement the scoring at various points over the course of the season.
Nipmuc had games against Hopedale and Northbridge on the schedule this week. The team will host Tantasqua and travel to Littleton to close out the regular season next week.
Despite the loss to Nipmuc, the Valley Tech girls' lacrosse team started the week with the postseason still potentially in the cards. The Beavers were 5-8 heading into the new week and have put together a 4-3 record in the Colonial Athletic League. BVT has tested itself this season with a strong non-league slate. In addition to Nipmuc, the Beavers had had tilts with Bellingham, Hopedale, Bellingham, and Northbridge, among others.
Several players have stood out for BVT, including Olivia Harris and Brianna West who notched hat tricks for the team in a win earlier this month over Nashoba Valley Tech.
Valley Tech has also been just a few goals away from flipping some of their results this spring, including a pair of one-goal losses against Advanced Math and Science Academy.
The Beavers are slated to host Assabet this Friday before a road contest against Hopedale on May 29.
