Seniors Lifting MHS Girls LAX Spirits

As the season winds down for the Milford High girls' lacrosse team, the Scarlet Hawks have continued to look to their seniors to give the team a boost both on the field and in terms of morale as the program continues to build.
"The seniors bring their experience to the table every single day," said head coach Nicole Serra. "They are always giving phenomenal advice. I feel like they really help the other girls move past their mistakes, which is really helpful."
Almost like having extra assistant coaches, the older players are quick to pick up the spirits of a younger player who might have made a mistake on the field. "They'll say 'brush it off, keep going, we are going to get this,'" Serra said. "They are helpful to the team's growth."
Milford began the week with four wins on the season and hoped to give the senior class a proper sendoff in the senior game Thursday against Assabet Valley. The team has also enjoyed some player milestones. Emily Haley recently scored her 100th goal and Savanna Rosado, another senior, is nearing 1,000 saves for her career in goal. "It's been really exciting to show the girls that we can hit some milestones," Serra said.
The team has also shown improvement throughout the season, playing some teams tighter the second time around and flipping the script against Norwood. After losing to Norwood by two back on May 1, the Scarlet Hawks bounced back just nine days later and earned a two-goal victory.
Milford had games at home against Foxboro and Assabet Valley on the docket for this week before traveling to Nipmuc on May 29 and closing the season at home against Norton May 30.
The first-year head coach is hesitant to single out too many players, saying the effort this year has been collaborative. It has also positioned the program well moving forward.
"I am really excited about the continuation of this group into upcoming years," Serra said. "I feel like their support for one another and their excitement for the game is helping them grow so consistently. I feel like next year, it's only going to improve, they are becoming more unified than they have ever been."
