Milford Field Hockey Seeks Complete Effort

Milford High School's field hockey team is still looking to put together that full 60 minute effort, but head coach Katie Blackburn said her squad is getting closer every time out. "We are starting to gel," Blackburn said. "Our last game against North Attleboro was, by far, our best display."
The Scarlet Hawks lost 4-2 to North Attleboro, but started to put things together after halftime. Trailing 4-0 at the break, Milford scored twice and kept North Attleboro off the board in the second frame. "We started playing our game," Blackburn said. "So it's really about that mental toughness, coming in ready to play."
"Our goal is to play the full 60-minute game," the head coach added. "This year, we have had some mental lapses. We have been playing hard, but we haven't been playing smart for the whole game." On a senior-laden team, Milford sophomore Olyvia Whyte has been a standout in the midfield. "She does a great job getting the ball from the defense up to the offense," Blackburn said.
Tatiana Martinez, a senior, scored twice against North Attleboro and Kathryn Swineford, her classmate, added a pair of assists. Senior Paige Reisman has helped Milford stay in games in net.
"I have been messing around with the roster and finally have my forwards going," Blackburn said. "We are trying to change the mindset of trying to dribble through people. We have to use each other and pass. In the North Attleboro game, we started to get the ball up the field and get some shots on net and execute on corners, which was helpful."
Milford will look to build up to that complete effort together and use its 11 seniors to help bring some of the younger players along with an eye towards the continued development of the program.
