Upton Youth Cal Ripken Baseball formed a summer baseball team to compete in the popular Hopkinton Summer Sizzler Tournament. The team was formed with 13 nine-year-olds and competed against strong teams with mostly 10-year-olds. The team finished the regular season with a 5-3 record, winning the last three regular season games including a great win over the Mendon "B" team in the season finale, giving Mendon their only loss of the regular season. The team continued their strong play in the playoffs defeating both Ashland and Hopkinton and advanced to the Championship game against Mendon for a winner take all rematch.
The boys were loose and came ready to play. They jumped to an early lead that they never lost and won the Championship Game 8-4. They hit well, ran the bases hard and smart, played great defense and had excellent pitching. It was a team win that capped off a great season.
All thirteen players improved over the season, contributed to the team's success and had a summer they will never forget.
