Milford Football Looks to Bounce Back

The Milford High football team looks to return to its winning ways this weekend when the Scarlet Hawks play host to Marlboro Saturday. The Scarlet Hawks have lost three straight to fall to 3-4 overall, including last weekend's 29-19 loss against Fitchburg.
Milford started the year with a loss against Franklin but bounced back to win three in a row against Medway, Leominster, and Westboro. Two of those three victories, against the Mustangs and Rangers, came in shutout fashion. The Hawks defense has been one of the squad's strengths this season allowing fewer points than any other team in the Mid-Wach "A" League.
Milford has also scored the second fewest points in the league, and the last three weeks have proven to be more of a challenge for Tom Cullen's squad, with a 19-14 loss to St. Peter-Marian and an 18-7 loss against Holy Name preceding the Fitchburg set back.
In last week's game, the Red Raiders were led by senior Quintin Perkins, who picked up more than 100 yards receiving and added a pair of two point conversions, helping Fitchburg put the game away.
Milford's Chris Casey, who Cullen has described as "a little ball of fire and energy," led the Hawks with a pair of rushing touchdowns and a passing TD. He was picked off on Milford's final drive, however, thwarting any chance at a late game comeback.
The win moved Fitchburg to 3-0 in league play and saddled Milford with its first league loss on the season. The Scarlet Hawks lost an opportunity to move into first place in the standings, and instead fell into a three way with Leominster and Shrewsbury at 1-1. They two league games left, including Wachusett, who has yet to post a league win, and the annual Thanksgiving Day match-up with Shrewsbury.
But before matching up with the rest of the league, the Scarlet Hawks get Marlboro on Saturday. Milford scored a 10-0 win over the Panthers last season.
