The Nipmuc football coaches, players and families participated in a community service project to kick off the season this year called Operation American Soldier. Operation American Soldier was started by John and Wendy Rocca of Watertown, who have three children enlisted in the armed services. The idea behind the project is to make sure that no soldier leaves "mail call" without a "cheer box" from home since the Rocca's discovered through sending their own packages to their children overseas that many soldiers never receive items from home and felt "forgotten". Items included in these cheer boxes range from candy, toiletries, DVD movies, nonperishable food items and personal letters amongst many other items.
All Nipmuc football players and families donated items from the list that is provided by Operation American Soldier and delivered it to a local drop spot. Senior players and captains collected the items and wrote personal letters to our men and woman serving overseas.  Once delivered to the drop spot these items were shipped to Watertown where they are sorted into "cheer boxes" and shipped to all the soldiers serving today.
Nipmuc football would like to invite the community to come cheer us on when we face Clinton on November 5 at 1 p.m. at Miscoe Field on North Ave., Mendon. In honor of all our local veterans and our soldiers currently serving, we are asking the community to bring an item from the list provided on the www.operationamericansoldier.org or www.nipmucfootball.com under "community service". Go Warriors!
