Milford Football Beats Canton in Thriller

It took until the waning seconds to decide, but the Milford High football team emerged with a thrilling 38-35 win over Canton last Friday. The victory was the first for the 1-3 Scarlet Hawks and the first for new head coach Joe Todd. MHS had dropped its first three games of the year, falling to Marlboro, Holliston, and Stoughton.
Eric Nunez kicked a 23-yard field goal to give MHS the win as the Scarlet Hawks withstood a furious charge from Canton. The Bulldogs scored 22 unanswered points in the final frame to rally from a 35-13 deficit and tie the game at 35. Nunez split the uprights with five seconds left to live MHS to the win.
Canton got on the board first with a one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Milford responded in the second, as Nunez reeled in a 10-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback John Hearns and running back Quentin Orr added a 20-yard scoring scamper. The Hawks put three more scores on the board in the third quarter. Orr started the scoring with a 12-yard TD run. After a Canton touchdown, Pete Schuler caught a 60-yard touchdown strike from Hearns to put Milford on top 28-13. Orr capped off the third with an eight-yard run to give the Scarlet Hawks the 35-13 advantage.
The Scarlet Hawks turn their attention to Foxboro tonight as they welcome the Warriors for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Foxboro has had an up and down season, alternating wins and losses for a 2-2 record. Defensively, they surrendered 37 points each in a week one loss to Walpole and a week three setback against Oliver Ames, but allowed just a touchdown in a 21-6 win over Whitman-Hanson and come into this week's contest fresh off a 37-0 shutout against Sharon.
Milford enters week five in a four-way tie for second place in the Hockomock's Davenport Division. Oliver Ames leads the way with a 2-0 record in the league and a 4-0 overall mark. Stoughton, Foxboro, and Sharon are all 1-1 along with Milford and Canton checks in at 0-2 in league play.
