Two Nipmuc Grads Help Fight Breast Cancer

Sam Maneri and Nicole Bozzini, recent graduates of Nipmuc Regional High School will be running and kayaking for breast cancer prevention at the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition's 22nd annual Against the Tide event on June 21 in Hopkinton. Maneri and Bozzini will be participating in the 5K run and 2-mile kayak portion of the swim, walk, run, and/or kayak event.
The friends met nearly 14 years ago playing youth soccer. When Maneri's mom asked her to participate in Against the Tide as part of her birthday present, she asked her long time friend to join her, and Bozzini graciously agreed.
Maneri has had multiple family members and close family friends face breast cancer head-on, and her friend Bozzini has always been by her side for support every step of the way.
"I have seen first hand how devastating and unforgiving this disease can be," says Maneri. "I believe strongly in putting an end to breast cancer, which is why working with the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition is so important to me."
"We are honored to have Sam and Nicole will be joining us on the beach in Hopkinton on June 21st," says Cheryl Osimo, Executive Director of MBCC. "Having these two young women participate in this event show how future generations play a leadership role in MBCC's goal of breast cancer prevention."
To join their team "Samma and Bozz" or to make a pledge toward Sam and Nicole," please visit: http://www.firstgiving.com/team/268039 .
The 15th annual Cape Cod Against the Tide event will be held in Brewster on August 16.
Currently, MBCC is the only breast cancer organization, locally or nationally, that focuses on breast cancer prevention. The statewide Against the Tide events generate funds towards this goal and MBCC's work in community education, research advocacy, and public policy change. The morning events consist of a 1-mile swim, 2-mile kayak, 3-mile walk, 5K run, and/or 10K run. Participants may choose one or more of the activities in any combination. There will also be a "Splash and Dash" Aquathlon option where participants first "splash" in the competitive 1-mile swim and then, "dash" in the competitive 5K or 10K run. Each year, this family-friendly event brings individuals from all demographics and all abilities together with one goal in mind: breast cancer prevention.
MBCC is inviting people throughout Massachusetts to register for one or both of the events at www.mbcc.org/swim or by calling 617-376-6222. Those who cannot attend are invited to make a pledge to a registered participant or existing team at www.firstgiving.com/mbcc.
