Valley Tech Girls Hoops, Boys Hockey Tournament Bound

The Blackstone Valley Tech girls basketball team and hockey team are both heading back to the district tournament and they both have strong defenses to thank.
The girls basketball squad punched its ticket to the postseason after a win last Saturday at Parker Charter pushed the Beavers to 10 wins on the year.
BVT held off Parker in a defensive struggle, pulling out a 36-34 win behind 14 points from Janel McCarty. Valley Tech came into the final week of the season with games at home Wednesday against Monty Tech and against Assbet next Tuesday.
A suffocating defensive effort like the one BVT used to beat Parker has been the norm for head coach Britt Kahler's team over the past several weeks. Valley Tech has held 12 straight opponents to 40 points or less. On two occasions — a 50-14 drubbing of Nashoba Valley Tech and a 38-12 win over Worcester Tech — the Beavers surrendered fewer than 20 points. The 33 points per game allowed by BVT marks the stingiest total in the Colonial Athletic League.
On offense, Valley Tech has sported a balanced attack with no player averaging in double figures. Emily Muscatell leads the team at 9.9 points per game. Isabelle Angelini is second at nine points per night and McCarty is third at just north of seven points per game.
The Beavers sit second in the CAL standings, two games behind Main South. The league-leader from Worcester is 13-1 in league play, Valley Tech started the week 10-3.
The Grafton/BVT hockey co-op started the week 11-4-3 overall and second in the Coughlin Conference with a 7-2-1 mark. The team is riding the wave of a three game winning streak, holding Holliston, Lunenberg, and Garner to one goal each.
After a Wednesday home game against Littleton, the Indians visit Burncoat on Monday to close out the regular season.
Grafton senior Nick Hart leads the team with 25 points on the year, but the Beavers' contingent has also supplied plenty of firepower.
Junior Cam Thomas has 16 points thanks to four goals and 12 assists on the year. Sophomore Noah Charron has four goals and 10 helpers and senior captain Joe Corsi, another Valley Tech students has chipped in with 13 points.
