Post 59 Forms
Committees for State Legion Tournament

With the start of the legion baseball season about a month away and the state tournament in late July fast approaching, Milford Post 59 has organized nearly three-dozen people into subcommittees to help with the planning and organization of the six-day championship coming to Fino Field this summer.
"We are in the planning stages, the subcommittees are going to reach out to people who are interested in helping," Post 59 manager Steve DiVitto said. "We are looking for an additional 50 to 60 volunteers to help us out during the tournament."
More than 30 people are already signed up to lead or join the various subcommittees, DiVitto said. The groups will handle everything from stocking and working the concession stands, selling merchandise during the tournament, helping to prepare the field before and between games, and putting an advertising book together to help raise revenue.
The entire legion board of directions is involved in the different subcommittees, DiVitto said, and most were involved the last time Milford hosted a state tournament back in 2005.
"I think we really knew what kind of undertaking this would be," he said. "It's important to note that a lot of people who are involved in this have done this before, so that really helps because they know what to expect, which helps us know what to do."
DiVitto extolled the board of directors, saying "they have really taken the bull by the horns and done a great job, they have made my life easy."
Milford will receive an automatic bid to the tournament, which runs from July 22 through July 27 and will feature eight teams in a double-elimination format. Post 59 advanced to the state championship game when it hosted in 2005 before falling to Sandwich.
One feature DiVitto said will not be brought back this summer will be a temporary fence, which made an appearance at Fino in 2005 and remained for the following season, substantially reducing the park's expensive dimensions.
Even with the leadership of the board, dozens of volunteers will be needed to properly staff the tournament. DiVitto encouraged interested parties to contact him directly at sdivitto@gmail.com.
"We are looking for anyone willing to volunteer, in whatever capacity they are able," he said. "We appreciate any and all help."
