Mendon Select Board member and current Chair Mark Reil announced he does not plan to seek re-election. Reil was first elected to the Select Board in May of 2013.
“I came to this decision because I’m satisfied with all the great things I have been able to accomplish with our leadership team,” Reil stated. “Choosing to seek re-election would have been selfish at this point. I believe that new perspective is needed and with that I have decided not to run.”
In addition to Reil’s seat, two other Select Board seats will be on Mendon’s town election ballot. Last year, residents voted to add two new Select Board seats for a total of five members.
Other incumbents and their offices up for election include Kenneth O’Brien, Board of Assessors for three years; Andrew Fiske, Board of Health for three years; Kerry Laurence, Mendon-Upton Regional School District Committee for three years; A.J. Byrne, Parks Commissioner for three years; Damon Tinio, Planning Board for five years; Shana Miller and Sharron Luttrell, Taft Library Trustees for three years; Alan Tetreault, Tree Warden for three years; and Kevin Rudden, Water Commissioner for three years. The Town Moderator’s seat, currently held by Thomas Merolli, carries a one-year term.
Nomination papers are now available in the Town Clerks’ office for those Mendon residents interested in running for open seats. Completed nomination papers must be returned to the Town Clerk’s office no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29.
The Annual Town Election will be held on Tuesday, May 17, with polls open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Miscoe Hill School gymnasium. The last day to register to vote in the Annual Town Election is Wednesday, April 27.
“The easiest way to register to vote is online,” said Mendon Town Clerk Ellen Agro. The website for voter registration is Sec.State.Ma.Us/OVR.
Voters who are unable to be present on Election Day can apply for an absentee ballot on the town’s website. The application can be found at MendonMa.Gov/Elections/Links/Absentee-Ballot-Application.
The Town Clerk’s office is located in Town Hall at 20 Main Street. It is recommended to call ahead for nomination papers at 508-473-1085. This is also the correct number to call with questions about the upcoming Annual Town Election, including voter status.
